The project goal is to improve quality, durability, market opportunities and resource base of bamboo and cane based commodities and their sustainable development in the least developed countries.

Component 1

To develop and introduce rehabilitation and certification systems of bamboo and rattan resources in participating developing countries

Objective:

Designing and establishment of the rehabilitation technique and criteria for sound sustainable bamboo and rattan management

Output:

Sustainable development of bamboo and rattan resources and commodities and increased export of the least developed countries on the bases of advanced certification of resource management;

Activity 1

Identification of the fast growing bamboo and rattan varieties and their propagation systems

Activity 2

Practical testing of the proper rehabilitation systems

Activity 3

Designing of criteria and indicators for sustainable management of bamboo and rattan resources

Activity 4

Practical testing of the certification system

Activity 5

Practical introduction of the rehabilitation and certification system in the chosen participating countries 

Component 2

To provide design improvement of the bamboo and rattan commodities meeting medium and high quality standards of the developed western markets

Objective:

Carry out new designs of the bamboo and rattan commodities combining traditional knowledge and modern technologies

Output:

Documentation on new and perspective designs for bamboo and rattan commodities particularly attractive for the local consumers and international trade

Component 3

To ensure dissemination of the new technology through the training and networking with particular stress on integrating women into the dissemination activities

Dissemination of the new technology through the training/workshops etc.

Trained commodities producers combining indigenous knowledge, modern design and market awareness
